Sketchbook stuff
Some more daily sketchbook drawings. I've been busy, but its a nice change of pace to do one of these during a break. I've been think of trying out some different pens even though I like how the brush pen makes me slow down and think through the drawing.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.
I've been having fun drawing a lot of cars these past few weeks for work and freelance. It is one of those rare coincidences where get to do what you enjoy. I'm a big fan of Back to the Future and have been trying to sneak the car into one of these projects. I did a few sketches for fun and had the time to paint one up.

Flat Out
Been keeping busy with wedding plans, orthos at work and getting back in shape after injuring my knee playing soccer. We've been having some great weather in LA and its making me look forward to summer.

A sketch a day keeps the...
One of my big new year's resolutions I made was "to do more art." I kind of split that into a few different little goals inside of that to make it easier to keep doing. One was to post weekly on my blog and one of the others was to do a sketch a day. I've been carrying a small moleskine notebook in my pocket for the past few years to keep lists, ideas, and notes. This year I started actually sketching in them. I've filled three since the start of this year and been thinking of starting a new blog to hold all those sketches. Here's a few that I scanned.

Bee Movie Production Artwork
It's been a rough week. I've been fighting being sick and haven't had the energy to do much of anything. Here is some work I had sitting on my hard drive. Bee Movie was my second project at Dreamworks. I'm not sure how many people remember the movie, but it was a project produced in cooperation with Jerry Seinfeld. I didn't get the opportunity to do much artwork due to how the art department was run and the assignments I was given. I spent much of my time doing graphic design for objects populating the world - posters, signs, food packaging, street signs. Here are the few things I actually got to design/draw.

Pig & Wolf win the race
Things have calmed down about a day or two ago and I've been catching up with all the things I've missed the past few weeks - laundry, cleaning, netflix, art. I have a fondness for old(1950-1980's) automobile racing, particularly F1. I wanted to do something relating to that world and also wanted to play around with some photo processing that I've been researching. I have a few more ideas for these guys. Hopefully we'll see them again.

Don't forget to feed the meter
These past few weeks I thought I was busy, but life has upped the ante and formed a perfect storm of sorts. I was seriously contemplating foregoing posting this week, but felt bad about breaking my new years resolution. So here you go. This is something I started thursday night and didn't really have time to complete. I had(have?) a grand plan for this piece and hopefully I can carry them out when things calm down in a week or so.

This Morning
Saw this cat interaction this morning by the bedroom door. It's been a busy week and haven't had a lot of time to do anything of my own. Finally had some time today and threw this together so I would have something to post this week.

Kung Fu Panda 2 : Prelude to an Art Post
IF IT WAS A DARK PSYCHOLOGICAL DRAMA -
rejected poster concept. I really liked this one, but it didn't make the cut.
You can consider this a teaser/trailer to the larger KFP2 art post coming in May.
I ended my run on KFP2 just a few short months ago, and most everyone is still cranking to finish. I had a great experience on the movie and was allowed to do work outside my comfort zone. I learned a lot and would kill for a chance to work on any possible sequel.
Here is the latest trailer that premiered today before Rango -

I worked on color keys for a few of the sequences in the trailer as well as providing some design work. Here's three I pulled out of a hat. Don't forget to go see the movie when it comes out in May!

That's a negative, Ghost Rider, the pattern is full
Another quick painted sketch. I spent a lot of time using photoshop filters to make something unfinished look more complete. It's nice to get the time to paint a little. I've spent a few weeks refining a location design in maya and starting to a bit crazy from the lack of art in my life.
